Our Story
While travelling in 2016 through India, Sasha von Meister came across a hand-knotted bag crafted using a traditional technique that are passed down through generations. What first drew her to it was its effortless beauty and practicality. Lightweight, durable and endlessly versatile, it quickly became her go-to accessory.
It travelled everywhere with her, became part of daily life, and stood up to years of use.
Years later, after her puppy had finally won a battle with the handles of her beloved bag, Sasha began searching for a replacement.
It was while staying at a hotel during a visit to India, the receptionist immediately recognised the bag. She explained that her and a close community of women made them by hand, gathering together in the evenings to knot each piece.
Each bag is created using a traditional hand-knotting technique called Koodai that has been shared across generations. Every knot tied by hand, creating pieces that are remarkably strong, practical and made to last.
What struck Sasha most was not only the craftsmanship itself, but the way it was woven into everyday life. Women gathering together after work, knotting side by side, sharing stories and preserving a tradition that had remained
Through this unexpected conversation and discovery Sasha was inspired to design bags that were modern, versatile and practical. Celebrating these artisan traditional techniques, while supporting the women that crafted them.
Produced in limited quantities, every piece is unique.
